More piracy off Somalia

Another Italian ship has been attacked by pirates.

The 40,000-dwt tanker Cieio di Milano (2003), owned by D'Amico di Navigazione of Rome, has been attacked off the coast of Somanlia.

It is the second such attack on an Italian ship in the space of a week.

The Cieio di Milano was sailing from the Red Sea to Mombasa when today when it was attacked 85 miles off the Somanlian coast, according to the Italian Shipowners Association (Confitarma). Just six years ago, the 1,182-teu, 113-car conro Jolly Marrone (built 1982), owned by Messina Lines, had to outrun an armed assault under similar circumstances.

In both circumstances, the ships were attacked by two small boats that fired against them several times.
