New regulations starting from 27 May 2003 now require non-tank vessels trading in Alaskan waters to provide proof of financial responsibility for only deductibles more than USD 50,000. For non-tank vessels exceeding 400 gross tonnage, contingency plans are required for oil discharge prevention.
