New immigration clearance requirements for crewmembers of non-military ships

Starting 1 November 2003, new immigration clearance procedures require crewmembers of non-military ships to carry a valid passport and identity document. Those without both documents will not be allowed to enter Australia and will have to remain on board whilst their vessel is in Australian waters. Shipping companies may be fined $5,000 for each crewmember found without the necessary documents.
