Local authorities are inspecting vessels strictly for any irregularities to lodge possible fines.

Irregularities can consist of dirty kitchens, toilets, food not wrapped, medicines which have expired, absence of waste baskets, absence of gangway protection etc., Basically almost any irregularity can attract a fine. Fines can range from US$1,200 to US$120,000.
